The First Multilingual Library and Cultural Center in Greece

“We Need Books” in the Kypseli neighbourhood of Athens is the first multilingual library and cultural center in Greece. It has gathered more than 14,000 books in 60 languages, including publications and educational materials designed for migrants and refugees.

It is not only a library but also a space for meetings, workshops, language lessons, and cultural events. The place runs the project “Empower Athens’ Displaced People through Community”, which supports 100 refugee families by providing education, after-school activities, and access to literature in their own languages.

For their series about books and people around Europe, our partners ‪@KrytykaPolitycznaTV‬ went to Athens to meet the people behind “We Need Books”.

This shortdoc is also part of our “Stories Breaking Borders” series. To watch other films in the series, check out our channel.
