Rebuilding a Village: How Yamochori Came Back to Life Through Community

This is the story of Yamochori, a small Greek village that was nearly abandoned until locals—and newcomers—began returning to restore homes, share work, and revive traditions.

Through collective decisions, communal labour, and a commitment to living closer to the land, the community has reinvented rural life as a modern, cooperative experiment. A reflection on depopulation, sustainability, and how a village can function almost like a grassroots democracy, proving that rebuilding a place also means rebuilding relationships and ways of living together.
