Living in a nightmare 13m2 apartment in Paris: from mould to rats and break-ins

Mona lives in a 13-square-meter apartment that has been declared unfit for living. The apartment, which was artificially created by the landlord, who divided a bigger space into smaller boxes to maximise rent, has poor insulation and ventilation. Since moving in, she has had to deal with mould in the bathroom and living room, rats and mice, a ceiling that is in danger of collapsing, water leaks, and more.

In the summer, with extreme heat in the apartment due to poor insulation, she is forced to open the windows to get a little air. One night, robbers broke into her home in the middle of the night while she was sleeping. Mona is still traumatised.
