In Naples, locals protect their city from turning into a playground for tourists

Nives Monda is the owner and chef of La Taverna a Santa Chiara, a trattoria known for its dedication to local produce and slow cooking, located in the heart of Naples. It is one of the few remaining historic restaurants in a city that, in recent years, has been grappling with the challenges of mass tourism and “foodification” – the transformation of the city into a “gastronomic playground” filled with pizzerias, fry shops, sandwich bars, and tourist stores.

Alongside Nives, local bar owners and NGOs are continuing their resistance.
