In Hungary, the government is doing its best to censor LGBTQi+ books

What happens when a book becomes dangerous to decision makers? In Hungary, in 2025, there’s no need to imagine, it’s the reality.

This is the result of Hungary’s 2021 Child Protection Act, which prohibits the presentation of homosexual content to minors in the media, including television, films, advertisements and literature. As a result, buying a comic book about two teenage boys becomes something of a secret mission.

For their series about books and people around Europe, our partners ‪@KrytykaPolitycznaTV‬ went to Budapest in search of the mysterious book. This shortdoc is also part of our “Stories Breaking Borders” series.
