Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia: Exiled Journalists Against Repression

Freedom of press is a value that’s taken for granted in many European countries. Yet, with every year that passes, the Reporters Without Borders’ Press Freedom index goes redder and redder.

In parts of Europe, independent journalists have to risk their lives, and the safety of their families, to continue doing their jobs. Most of them are forced to pack their lives into a single suitcase, if they’re lucky, and leave their lives and loved ones behind, with no guarantee of ever being able to come back.

For the second documentary of our original series Off the Trail, we went to meet Ekaterina, Aliaksandr and Fatima, three independent journalists working from exile.

They spoke about the state of press freedom in their countries, the risks they had to take to continue working, and their dreams.
