Our Manifesto

Sphera defends a more humane and socially-engaged European journalism.

We are a crossborder journalistic adventure, crossing borders by teaming up with socially-engaged independent media and reporters on the foundations of our continent’s future: social justice, climate emergency, human rights and democracy. With our borderless stories  – whatever they are videos, podcasts, newsletters– we want to revamp our continent by reporting on the European fights and alternatives.

A Europe of experience

Our humane-centred journalism takes the time to go on the ground. Our editorial offer draws on the experiences of those who make social Europe to create bridges between our societies. We propose video features sharing perspectives on issues driving our continent, impactful and poignant reportages to connect the dots across our societies, social media content to be informed differently on European news, immersive audio stories and the Sphera Media Lab event where we meet our community. Sphera is above all a place of experimentation to bring out and to promote the new voices of the Europe of tomorrow.

For the new generations of Europeans

Something is happening in Europe. In 2024, most young Europeans were born as Europeans. The European youth is plural, but young people, regardless of their countries, nationalities, languages they speak, young people are more and more aligned. And socially-engaged young people do have a strong sense of European belonging, as their citizenship and lives are ‘European by design’. Young generations tend also to agree for a more inclusive and climate-friendly continent. Our network and media is meant for them.

Cross Border collaborations and polyglot

Sphera flourishes innovative collaborative crossborder reporting. Because to change the status quo, and to really propose an authentic voice of our continent, independent media must cooperate and collaborate together. This is the only way for their brilliant and impactful reporting to cross borders, to be accessible, in multiple languages, to young Europeans regardless of where they are. In a changing and more and more challenging European media ecosystem,  collaborations between like-minded media and cultural actors is fundamental for the emergence of a true and genuine European public sphere.

Socially engaged journalism

We want all Europeans to see the whole picture of what is at stake of our continent.  As our continent is facing existential threats – from the climate emergency, to the rise of far-right forces and inequalities and the erosion of our democratic norms – it is essential that they could be a place for young Europeans to look for hope and informed reporting on the daily lives of Europeans.

Collective movement

Sphera  is more than a media project , it is also a community of European citizens who want to be involved in what they watch, listen to or read. As you can see, we are not afraid to experiment and we believe in the power of the collective. Collaboration is our motto  at all levels. Journalists part of our network work together everyday on unique stories which are able to cross borders. We are also looking for insights and feedback from our community so that their opinions and ideas can feed our reporting and we meet with our community and audience regularly. Conversely, we know that producing quality European journalism cannot be done without our community who are willing to follow and support us.
