The EU Court of Justice has recently ruled that EU companies can ban headscares under certain conditions, if they need to project an image of neutrality to customers. The ruling happened on cases brought by two Muslim women in Germany who were suspended from their jobs for wearing a headscarf. But banning headscarfs could consitute ‘indirect discrimination’, since the Islamic headscarfs by some are seen as obligatory – and thereby differs from the cross or crucifix.
