In Greece, the slow disappearance of small-scale farms

The latest Greenpeace report highlights the alarming loss of small-scale farms in Greece, with 31% of the country’s farms disappearing. This is part of a broader trend in the EU, where nearly 2 million farms have been lost since 2007.

On the outskirts of Thessaloniki live the founders of Chilli Factor, a small organic farm and the first certified slow farm in Greece producing micro greens, edible flowers, vegetables and fruits. The owners Nikos and Lilian are trade unionists of the bio farmer’s market and became farmers during the early years of the financial crisis after having to close down the comic book shop.

Their house is on their farm and they live with their kids who help in the family business. This is their take on the alarming trend.
