Bakary Boudou arrived in France some fifteen years ago. In his home country, Mauritania, he lived with his mother, who ran a restaurant and taught him how to cook.
Since his arrival to France, he worked in several restaurants but was laid off before Covid. Today, in his 9m2 room, which he shares with his roommate, Bakary continues to cook. In his tiny kitchen, he barely has room to turn around with a frying pan in his hands, but many people from the household come to eat with him. One day, a friend offered to buy his dishes, word spread quickly and the whole neighbourhood came knocking at Bakary’s window to get their thieb and mafé.
Today, Bakary sells dozens of dishes at lunchtime and in the evenings. Numerous rappers and footballers have come to feast in his little room.
